What Are Connection Groups?

Connection Groups are our primary way of getting people connected. As our vision states, our hope is that people will start their week in worship. From their, Connection Groups gather and go deeper into community.

Connection Groups are guided by three principles:

  1. Common Purpose- The purpose of our groups is three-fold:
    • Belong- to discover a place of belonging in the body of Christ.
    • Grow- to grow in our relationship with Christ and with one another through the teachings of scripture.
    • Serve- to put into practice the teaching of scripture to care for one another and our neighbors.
  2. Common Place- Groups come together throughout the city so that people can go to the group closest to them. We want groups to live in community together and gather as an intergenerational body- young and old, men and women, people of all ages and stages of life.
  3. Common Possessions- Our hope is that as groups mature they will genuinely share life together: bringing snacks to share, sharing the responsibility of child care, and helping meet one another's needs. For example, we encourage Connection Groups to take meals to new families, to invite neighbors to worship and to the Group, and to find community service projects to support.

A typical Connections Group might include coffee, snacks and small talk to begin the gathering. The program may begin by reading a bible story with children in the group. One adult may then volunteer to watch the kids so that the adults may discuss the text and topic covered in the Sunday worship service. Someone in the group may have some questions or personal issues they'd like to share. The group may listen and respond in a supportive manner. Hopefully each person will feel challenged and enabled to apply a biblical truth to his or her life. Finally, the group will pray for one another before departing.
