Why We Do What We Do - The Ultimate Connection

The Bible teaches us that we were made to be in relationship with God, with one another, and with all of the creation. We were made to walk in relationship with God- to know and be known by Him. We were made to be in relationship with one another, as the Bible says, it was "not good to be alone." And we were made to be in relationship with creation as Gods "stewards," that is, taking care of the world in partnership with God.

The connections were broken. People walked away from God- we rejected a relationship with the creator, and invented religions and rituals to fill the void. People walked away from one another- relationships too often became characterized by hurt and pain, instead of love and protection. People walked away from creation- instead of a harmonious existence with the world, we've tended to use and abuse the earth. And in a real way we've become disconnected with ourselves. Away from God, outside of community and family, hostile to the creation, we have forgotten who we are. People spend a lifetime trying to "find themselves" and what they were made to do.

But God never broke connection. The Old Testament begins to tell the story of God reconnecting with humanity. From the beginning the promise was given to a man named Abram-

"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you, and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." Genesis 12:2-3

Then God made the ultimate connection- through the line of Abram, the people of God, He came to the earth He created. He came to the people He loved. He came to us. Jesus Christ is God incarnate- God made flesh. For God made the ultimate connection and became one of us, and he made the ultimate sacrifice so we could be connected forever- Jesus gave up his life so we could live.

Jesus gave his life yet he remains connected to us now more powerfully than ever. He rose from death and sent the Holy Spirit so that we could forever remain connected with Him. Not just now, not just us- all people, at all times, in all places- we're all connected in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. By calling Jesus our Savior we affirm that Jesus saves us here and now and for all eternity. Our life is presently found in Him, and eternally lived with Him. And by calling him Lord we declare that we live each day in all we say and do for His glory.

God is the perfect example of connection- one God in three persons. One God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

So it's all about connections. In being connected to God, we're connected to one another. In being connected to people, we connected to the world. Thought all this we become connected again with who we are and what we were made to do.
